Overview
Alloferons are cytokine-like peptides originally isolated from the hemolymph of bacterially challenged Calliphora vicina (blowfly) larvae. Two variants have been identified: alloferon 1 (13 residues) and alloferon 2 (12 residues). These peptides exhibit immunomodulatory activity by stimulating natural killer (NK) cell cytotoxicity and interferon synthesis.
