Overview

Apelin is an endogenous peptide ligand for the G-protein-coupled APJ receptor (apelin receptor). Encoded by the APLN gene, apelin is expressed in various tissues and plays important roles in cardiovascular regulation, fluid homeostasis, glucose metabolism, and angiogenesis.
