Overview
C3a is a 77-amino-acid anaphylatoxin produced by cleavage of the central complement protein C3 during complement activation. It features a defined helical N-terminus and a random coiled C-terminus. C3d, a smaller cleavage fragment of C3b containing an electronegative depression distal to the antigen binding site, is critical for enhancing B cell responses through complement receptor engagement.
