C5a-Related Peptides

Overview

C5a is a potent anaphylatoxin generated by cleavage of complement protein C5 during complement activation. In humans, C5a contains 74 amino acids organized into four helical domains stabilized by three disulfide bonds. It induces histamine release from mast cells and is rapidly metabolized by serum carboxypeptidase B to the 73-amino-acid form C5a des-Arg.
