Caerulein
Overview
Caerulein, also known as ceruletide, is a decapeptide with the sequence Pyr-Gln-Asp-Tyr(SO3H)-Thr-Gly-Trp-Met-Asp-Phe-NH2. First isolated from the skin of the Australian frog Hyla caerulea, it stimulates the release of gastric, biliary, and pancreatic secretions and can be used as a diagnostic tool in pancreatic function assessment. Caerulein shares structural and functional similarities with cholecystokinin, a member of the gastrin family of hormones.
