Cecropin

Overview

Cecropins are 31–37 amino acid positively charged antimicrobial peptides first isolated from the hemolymph of the giant silk moth Hyalophora cecropia. They are major components of the insect innate immune system, active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Cecropins lyse bacterial cell membranes, inhibit proline absorption, and cause membrane leakage.
