CGRP (Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide)

Overview

Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a 37-amino-acid neuropeptide belonging to the calcitonin family, which also includes calcitonin, amylin, adrenomedullin, adrenomedullin 2, and calcitonin-receptor-stimulating peptide. CGRP exists in two forms: α-CGRP (CGRP I) and β-CGRP (CGRP II), both produced through alternative splicing of the calcitonin gene and stored in sensory nerve terminals throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems.
