Charybdotoxin
Overview
Charybdotoxin (ChTX) is a 37-amino-acid neurotoxin isolated from the venom of the deathstalker scorpion Leiurus quinquestriatus hebraeus. It is a potent blocker of calcium-activated potassium channels, causing neuronal hyperexcitability. Named after the sea monster Charybdis from Greek mythology, ChTX belongs to a large family of scorpion toxins that includes agitoxin, margatoxin, and pandinotoxin.
