Chlorotoxin

Overview

Chlorotoxin (CTX) is a 36-amino-acid peptide isolated from the venom of the deathstalker scorpion Leiurus quinquestriatus. It is a small, positively charged peptide containing eight cysteines connected by four disulfide bonds that block small-conductance chloride ion channels. CTX selectively binds to matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) receptors on glioma cells, enabling preferential targeting of brain tumor cells over normal brain tissue.
