Conantokin G

Overview

Conantokin G (Con G) is a 17-amino-acid linear peptide from the venom of the cone snail Conus geographus that acts as a competitive antagonist of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors containing NR2B subunits. Named for its ability to induce a sleep-like state in mice, Con G belongs to the conantokin family of Conus peptides characterized by multiple γ-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) residues that confer high alpha-helicity in the presence of divalent cations.
