Conotoxin

Overview

Conotoxins are neurotoxic peptides of 10–30 amino acids isolated from the venom of cone snails (genus Conus). Characterized by one or more disulfide bonds, their remarkable specificity is conferred by the disulfide bond network and specific amino acids in intercysteine loops. Five major pharmacological types have been characterized: α-, δ-, κ-, μ-, and ω-conotoxin, each targeting distinct ion channels and receptors.
