Endomorphin
Overview
Endomorphins are endogenous opioid neurotransmitters central to pain relief. The two primary forms, endomorphin-1 (Tyr-Pro-Trp-Phe-NH2) and endomorphin-2 (Tyr-Pro-Phe-Phe-NH2), are tetrapeptides with high selectivity and affinity for the μ-opioid receptor. Endomorphin-1 is concentrated in the brain and upper brainstem, while endomorphin-2 is predominantly localized in the spinal cord and lower brainstem.
