Enterostatin

Overview

Enterostatin is a pentapeptide derived from the procolipase protein in the gastrointestinal tract. It functions as a satiety signal that selectively reduces food intake—particularly fat intake—when administered peripherally or centrally. Enterostatin is produced in the gastric mucosa and small intestinal mucosal epithelia, and its release is triggered by high-fat diets that upregulate procolipase gene transcription.
