Exendin

Overview

Exendin-4 (exenatide) is a 39-amino-acid peptide originally isolated from the saliva of the Gila monster (Heloderma suspectum). It is a potent agonist of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor and exhibits a significantly longer plasma half-life than endogenous GLP-1, making it a valuable research tool and therapeutic lead for type 2 diabetes. Exendin-4 enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion and improves glucose tolerance.
