Overview
Fibrinogen is a glycoprotein complex synthesized in the liver that circulates in the blood of all vertebrates. Upon tissue and vascular injury, it is enzymatically converted by thrombin into fibrin, forming a blood clot. As a positive acute-phase protein, fibrinogen levels increase in response to systemic inflammation and tissue injury.
