Guanylin Peptides

Overview

Guanylin is a 15-amino acid peptide secreted by goblet cells in the colon. It functions as an endogenous agonist of the guanylyl cyclase C (GC-C) receptor, regulating electrolyte and water transport across intestinal and renal epithelia. Upon receptor binding, guanylin increases intracellular cGMP levels, inducing chloride secretion and reducing fluid absorption — a mechanism central to intestinal fluid homeostasis.
