Hydrin

Overview

Hydrins are neurohypophyseal peptides derived from the pro-vasotocin-neurophysin precursor, originally isolated from the neurointermediate pituitary glands of Xenopus laevis and Rana esculenta. These peptides are biologically active on water permeability in frog urinary bladder and frog skin, making them valuable tools for osmoregulation research. Hydrin 1 carries a C-terminal Gly-Lys-Arg extension, while Hydrin 2 terminates with glycine.
