Mastoparan

Overview

Mastoparan is a 14-residue membrane-active polycationic peptide toxin originally isolated from wasp venom (Vespula lewisii). It directly activates heterotrimeric G-proteins by stimulating GDP/GTP exchange, mimicking the action of ligand-bound G-protein-coupled receptors. Mastoparan and its analogs are widely used as pharmacological tools for studying G-protein signaling and membrane-peptide interactions.
