Motilin
Overview
Motilin is a 22-amino-acid polypeptide hormone secreted by endocrine Mo cells located in the crypts of the small intestine, duodenum, and jejunum. It stimulates gastric motility by triggering the migrating motor complex (MMC) during the fasting state. Structurally unrelated to other gut hormones, motilin acts through the motilin receptor (GPR38) in both the gastrointestinal tract and the central nervous system.
