Obestatin
Overview
Obestatin is a 24-amino-acid peptide hormone secreted by specialized epithelial cells of the stomach and small intestine. Originally identified as an anorectic peptide counter-regulating ghrelin's orexigenic effects, obestatin is derived from the same preproghrelin precursor as ghrelin through alternative post-translational processing. Its structure, determined by NMR, is approximately 29% helical.
